Cerebral palsy youngster refused life-changing corrective surgery
Cerebral palsy is one of the most devastating conditions that medical negligence solicitors see. Severe mobility problems, learning disabilities and speech problems are among the common problems sufferers face and they often need life-long special care.
That’s why the case of Evie Tucker is upsetting to hear about, as she demonstrates the impact that cerebral palsy can have. Three-year-old Evie is unable to walk unaided, and even when using her walker, can only manage a few steps. However the youngster has been refused life-changing corrective surgery on the NHS (Daily Mail)
The operation, previously only available in the US, costs £23,000 and is now being offered at a hospital local to Evie. But despite this, a panel has refused her family’s application, stating that Evie’s case is not strong enough.
It seems an absolute travesty that this young girl could have gone on to enjoy a normal childhood, but that chance has been snatched away from her. Her family is now desperately trying to raise the money themselves, to give Evie a lifeline.
We have represented many children with cerebral palsy who also require special care and treatment, so understand only too well how frustrated Evie’s parents must be.
Unlike Evie, the youngsters we represent have cerebral palsy due to medical errors that were made at their birth. That’s why it is vital that they receive compensation to enable their families to pay for this special care and ensure that they are made as comfortable as possible.
When all is said and done, no amount of money can compensate for what has been taken away from these children. But it can help to give them the best quality of life possible.
